Nordic Windpower, a Berkeley-based start-up that is commercializing Nordic designs for wind turbines, announced $38 million in venture capital investment today. The Series C round investment is led by Khosla Ventures, probably the most prominent venture investor in so-called greentech.
Nordic manufactures a 1 MW, two-bladed wind turbine, which is used in either utility wind farm projects, or smaller-scale community projects. The headquarters is on University Avenue, while design is in Bristol, England, and manufacturing and operations is in Pocatello, Idaho.
I’ll just note that my ninth resolution for the New Year was that a high-tech start-up would scorn Silicon Valley and grow and prosper in Berkeley (I actually wrote West Berkeley, but I’d be happy with them anywhere). Perhaps Nordic Windpower is the start of something great for Berkeley.
