Time sink warning: once you start delving into The New York Times’ graphic display of Netflix data, it’s hard to stop. There are data on 100 titles that were frequently rented from Netflix last year. The most rented of the 100 nationally was “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. In Berkeley, Benjamin figures in the top 10 in every zip code. But “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” is also highly rented nationally — only in 94720, the university — does it crack the top 50 (it’s 29).
The top rented Netflix movie in Berkeley is clearly “Milk”, which figured strongly throughout the Bay Area (not surprising given the local content). Of the Berkeley zip codes, only 94720 didn’t rank “Milk” number one. There, it was number three. There are also signs of, in my opinion, excellent taste in Berkeley. The wonderful documentary “Man on Wire” ranks among the least rented nationally, but in Berkeley it makes the top 20 in most zip codes.
