The latest issue of Sunset has a feature extolling the 10 best pizzas in the Bay Area. Number two, dubbed the “new cult favorite”, is Keith Freilich’s Emilia’s Pizzeria on Shattuck, just north of Ashby. There’s only one thing to get, according to Sunset:

The oversize Margherita with mozzarella, basil, and fresh tomato sauce — followed by a shower of parmesan when it comes out of the gas oven.

As the website notes, Emilia’s is “generally open” Tuesday through Saturday, from 5 to 9 p.m. But when they run out of dough, they close, so you’re best to be quick off the mark. Emilia’s does take phone orders from about one hour before opening (phone 704-1794).
