Who will be cooking up delicious dinners for us ten or twenty years from now? Maybe some of the graduates of Sprouts Cooking Club, an organization which collaborates with top local chefs to train the next generation of chefs in Berkeley and beyond.

Sprouts is the brainchild of Karen Rogers, 32 23, who, when she arrived at UC Berkeley in 2005 immediately launched a cooking club on campus.

Today, the culinary arts club has some 600 members, making it one of the largest clubs on campus, according to Karen, who graduated last year and resigned from presiding over the group in 2007 to focus on Sprouts.

At the Sprout summer camps,  kids aged 7 to 13 work in some of the best restaurant kitchens in the Bay Area, including, in Berkeley, Chez Panisse, Venezia, La Mediterranee and Cafe Gratitude.
