La Peña Cultural Center on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley will hold a benefit concert this  Sunday to help the victims of the recent earthquake in Chile.

A newly formed organization, Mano a Mano Con Chile (Hand in Hand with Chile) — a group made up of local Chileans and north Americans — will host the benefit, which will feature Rafael Manriquez, Hector Salgado, Lichi Fuentes and Poncho Jaramillo, among others. There will also be food — including chicken and pea stew with rice and black beans, a Pablo Neruda favorite — a silent auction and updated information on the earthquake.

Mano a Mano Con Chile is planning various events and artistic activities over the next month in which they hope to raise a minimum of $10,000 to help support the thousands of victims left in the wake of the earthquake. Among the planned activities is the Cadena de la Cocina Solidaria Chilena, a weekly series of typical chilean breakfasts and dinners in private homes.

The event starts at 6pm and donations of between $20-$100 are suggested, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. For full details, visit La Peña’s website.
