The East Bay Green Corridor‘s first annual high-school job fair launches this afternoon at Berkeley High.

Students will be coming from BHS, El Cerrito High School, Emery Secondary, Oakland Tech High School, Richmond High School, Skyline High School, San Lorenzo High School, Youth Empowerment School and Foothill Academy from the Sacramento area. Each of these schools is developing a Green Career Academy.

“As a result of my bill, AB 2855, career technical high school academies focused on green technology are spreading across the state,” said State Senator Loni Hancock. “Students now have the opportunity to learn about energy conservation technologies, next generation fuels, construction, pollution prevention, waste reduction and vehicle technologies while developing real job skills.”

Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates (above right) said, “We can combat climate change and increase high school graduation rates at the same time through the green career academies.”

Among the organizations represented at the fair, which will run through the afternoon, are GroSolar, PG&E, Sungevity, Heliodyne, Berkeley Honda, Earth Island Institute, International Rivers, Earth Team, UC Berkeley and the Berkeley National Laboratory.
