If you read newspaper sports sections, college basketball has taken over the nation’s interest for the month. But in Berkeley, the sports-inclined should focus on high school basketball for just a bit longer.

Berkeley High’s girls team play Oak Ridge/Eldorado Hills at 6 p.m. tomorrow night at Sacramento’s Arco Arena for the Northern California Division I championship. The two teams were the number 1 and number 2 seeds going into the tournament. The San Francisco Chronicle preview tips Berkeley:

This is a much-anticipated showdown between top-15 teams in the state and marquee players: Berkeley’s junior guard Brittany Boyd and Stanford-bound Sara James of Oak Ridge. Whichever team shoots a higher percentage wins. Can the El Dorado County school deal with Berkeley’s quickness? Prediction: Berkeley.

I know, incidentally, that another Berkeley-based team is still involved in March Madness, but tonight’s game in Jacksonville is a mere first rounder. The Yellowjackets are in a championship match.
