Two teenagers with connections to Berkeley High School were killed yesterday when their car collided with a school bus on the Richmond Parkway.
Prentice Theodore Gray, 19, and Kyle Strang, 16, were driving northbound on the Richmond Parkway around 12:35 pm when their car lost control and traveled into the southbound lanes. The car collided with the bus and got jammed under its front wheels. No students were on the bus at the time and the driver was unharmed.
Strang was a junior at Berkeley High School. Gray had graduated in 2009. They were close friends and identified one another as “family members” on their Facebook pages.
In recent years, Gray had gotten involved with distributing fresh and organic produce to lower-income black and Latino communities. He was a volunteer at Farm Fresh Choice, a group that runs three food stands in South and West Berkeley. At the time of his death, he was an intern at Mobinall, according to his Facebook page.
On Farm Fresh’s MySpace page, someone wrote: “Prentice T. Gray is one of the coolest people you will ever meet. Raised in south Berkeley by his loving mother and supporting family, he has been able to help his peers with many hard situations cutting his 17 years of life. His humor and personality will have u addicted to his presence.”
By late Wednesday, condolence messages and remembrances were starting to be posted on the two youths’ Facebook pages. “RIP,” “We will miss you,” and “We love you,” were some of the comments.
