The number of in-state students at UC Berkeley dropped from 11,200 last year to 9,420 this year, according to a report by Bay City News, published by ABC7.
Cal said today that it has offered freshman admission to 12,915 high-school students for the school year 2010-11 and California students continue to represent the majority of admissions, comprising more than 70% of the total.
Applications to UC Berkeley were a record high this year — at more than 50,000 — but reduced state funding forced a limit on enrollment for California residents, according to the university.
Cal said it increased the number of offers to international and out-of-state students to help generate additional funds during the state’s budget crisis.
