If the video above is your idea of a good time, then you should certainly sign up for the Urban Assault Ride, which will take place in Berkeley this Sunday. Sponsored by New Belgium Brewing and many others, including local star Clif Bar, the ride is a benefit for the East Bay Bicycle Coalition and the Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay.

Cyclists participate in teams of two on a citywide quest for checkpoints. At each checkpoint, there’s some kind of “funky/adventurous” activity to complete before heading on to the next checkpoint. The five named checkpoints for the ride are at Mike’s Bikes on University, REI on San Pablo, the Berkeley Marina, San Pablo Park and the Clif Bar offices on 5th Street. In addition, there are two “mystery” checkpoints. You can solve the puzzle here to find the identity of the first mystery checkpoint.

You can sign up to participate online or go to the entry pick-up on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Meridian, 2050 University Avenue. The assault ride kicks off at 9 a.m. on Sunday in Civic Center Park.
