“Your Mom is So Berkeley”, the more than entertaining Facebook group which has blossomed since we first wrote about it in December 2009, is throwing its first big event this weekend — a picnic to which all of those who have memories, fond or otherwise, of their Berkeley moms are invited.
After discovering YMISB, we checked back in March when the group hit 1,000 members. The New York Times read our story and ran its own coverage of the group, after which NBC got on the phone to do an interview too.
YMISB now has 2,258 Facebook members, and founder Roberto Santiago has launched a website with the same name to broaden the audience for this special brand of humor and recollection.
The Mothers’ Day Picnic will take place on Saturday (so not technically Mothers’ Day), from 12-3pm at the Willows Picnic Area in Tilden Park. Santiago asks that people bring some food or beverage to share: “What’s more Berkeley than a big ol’ community potluck? (Maybe a naked potluck, but we’re not doing that),” he writes. “Hopefully we can kick back, share our Berkeley-ness and honor the moms who got us here.”
