Berkeley police have determined that the suspicious package found at Cragmont Elementary School was not a bomb; it was a lunchbox. But it did have wires coming out of it, according to Sgt. Mary Kusmiss.
The principal of Cragmont spotted the “suspicious package” in her office and called Berkeley police to report it at 2:41 pm. The school called a fire drill and evacuated students from the building. The Berkeley bomb squad was dispatched and police shut down nearby streets as a precaution.
At 4:20 pm the bomb squad determined the package was a lunch box with wires coming out of it, according to Sgt. Kusmiss. It posed no danger. No one was hurt in the incident.
UPDATE 5:12 pm: The Oakland Tribune is reporting that an 11-year old brought the black lunch box to school and that it was blown up after all the students had left the campus.
