Following our story on Monday gauging the temperature of the District 8 City Council race by the number of lawn signs, incumbent Gordon Wozniak sent out the following email to his supporters:
I am in a tough re-election fight against two opponents who are running coordinated negative campaigns.
Today Berkeleyside stated that there are more lawn signs for my opponents than for Wozniak. I believe that Berkeleyside’s sampling is flawed. However, my opponents do have a lot of signs, often two per house and some in parks & public spaces which is illegal.
I believe that I have more endosers than both of my opponents. If every endorser would put up a lawn sign, it would be clear who has the most support.
Would you be willing to put up a Wozniak lawn sign?
Lawn signs are hardly an accurate tool for judging voter sentiment, as I explained on Monday. What do readers sense about Tuesday’s election?
