Wavy Gravy is not only a phenomenon all to himself, he’s a Berkeley institution. And a much-loved one at that.
MC at Woodstock, a hippie icon, a clown — even a (now discontinued) Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor, Wavy Gravy is also known for his compassion and commitment to making the world a better place.
And now there’s Wavy Gravy: The Movie. Saint Misbehavin’, which plays at the Landmark Shattuck on December 3, premiered at the SXSW Film & Music Festival last year and has had positive reviews, including from Michael Moore who wrote: “Wonderful. A moving tribute to a man who today lives his life at the service of others.”
The documentary was directed by Michelle Esrick and produced by DA Pennebaker and is described as “weaving together intimate verité footage, reflections from an array of cultural and counter-cultural peers, and a rich collection of never-before-seen archival footage to tell a story that is bigger than the man himself”.
