Sarah Shourd, one of the UC Berkeley graduates who was arrested while hiking by Iranian officials and charged with spying, has written and recorded a song in honor of her two companions, Josh Fattall and Shane Bauer, who remained imprisoned.

Shourd wrote the song, Piece of Time, while in solitary confinement in Evin Prison in Tehran. Apparently, she used to sing it to her two friends when they were able to see one another, according to the Associated Press. Shourd, who was released in September, is engaged to Bauer.

“The reason I’m doing the song is for Shane and Josh and to help people understand what they’re going through and what I went through,” Shourd told the AP. “I started writing songs the first day that I was thrown into a cell alone. It was really one of the things that kept me sane.”
