Update, 7:30pm: Exciting news: Dina, one of the managers of Amoeba, writes in to say that this event is NOT sold out as of 5 o’clock 4.14.11. “There are still wristbands available for those who pre-order the new album. Thanks! Peace” Thanks Dina.
The three Berkeley boys behind The Lonely Island phenomenon are making a trip to their hometown this weekend to promote their latest oeuvre, Turtleneck & Chain, which comes out on May 10th.
But before you get too excited at the prospect of meeting Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone (son of Berkeley Rep’s Tony Taccone), and Akiva Schaffer in the flesh, note that the event, which is at Amoeba on Saturday, is already sold out. Because the popular Saturday Night Live trio, who all grew up here, are expected to pull in the crowds, and space at the store is limited, those interested in attending were asked to pre-order copies of the album which would act as an admission ticket.
The Lonely Island Amoeba appearance is part of Record Store Day which sees special guests, DJ sets and live music at independent record stores across the nation. At Amoeba, the line-up includes Al Jardine who will be performing at 12 noon, and guest DJs Paul Costuros and Jen Chochinov. Visit Amoeba’s website for details.
