Update, 09:28am: Chris Linvill lives next door to the burned building — which he says is 3240 Ellis Street, not 3239 — and he had to evacuate his home with my wife and daughter at 11:30 pm last night.
Original story: A fire broke out at 3239 Ellis Street shortly after 11:00 pm, according to citizen reporter Audrey L. who sent in the photos here. “Not sure were fireworks evolved in this fire,” she writes, “but the building was abandoned and sparked a lot of fire engines to respond.”
ABC7 reported that large flames could be seen shooting from the roof of a building, described as being at Alcatraz Avenue and King Street, after 11 p.m. Monday. “Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.”
Citizen reporter John Lisherness reported that as he was driving north on MLK/Adeline just before Alcatraz he could see orange flames that “looked taller than a two-story building on the southwest side of the street. This inferno looked to me to be in the vicinity of Sweet Adeline Bakery. The entire neighborhood appeared to be in danger.”
