Update, 7:30pm: We offer you a sneak peek of the Apple store on Berkeley’s Fourth Street, courtesy of Berkeleyside reader Ryan Tate:

Apple will unveil its first Berkeley retail store at 1823 Fourth Street on Saturday August 20th. The grand opening, which starts at 10am, includes a free commemorative T-shirt for the first 1,000 customers.

The Apple store, which has been under construction since the beginning of the year, is in the former Slater Marinoff  space on the southern end of Fourth Street’s shopping district.

Berkeleyside broke the story that Apple would be moving into the space on October 14th last year, even though Apple refused to confirm the news.

We been following the shop’s progress ever since, which included a construction accident that closed neighboring businesses briefly. In June we talked to Fourth Street merchants about the likely impact the new store would have on local business, traffic and parking.

The nearest Apple store to Berkeley is on Bay Street in Emeryville. The new Apple store will be open Monday to Saturday, 10am-8pm and Sunday 11am-6pm.
