Baskets filled to the brim with gift certificates and pizza for a year from La Val’s

The two days of Caltopia were quite a whirl for students, faculty and staff, as well as for exhibitors like Berkeleyside. From the tens of thousands who passed through the self-proclaimed “greatest days on planet Earth”, we were able to have conversations about local news with hundreds of people, we launched OneNews/Berkeleyside, our exciting new citizen journalism app, and we even found some potential new journalists.

But what about the Berkeleyside raffle? We partnered with a host of wonderful Berkeley businesses to give out fabulous raffle prizes worth in total over $600. We would like to thank the following businesses for their generosity in providing gift certificates: AjantaAxis OpticalBerkeley Hat CompanyBooks Inc.Cioccolata Di VinoEcology CenterElmwood CaféFantastic ComicsFriends of the Berkeley Public LibraryGather RestaurantHotel Shattuck PlazaIdeologieImpact TheatreiScreamJoshu-ya BrasserieLMI.netMoe’s BooksMrs. Dalloway’sPegasusPhil’s SlidersPiQ,Powell’s Sweet ShoppeRevival CaféRudy’s Can’t Fail CaféSaul’s DeliShattuck Plaza HotelShoes on Solano,Slash JeansSummer Kitchen Bake Shop, and Venus Restaurant.

We also had a second raffle prize courtesy of  LaVals Pizza and Northside Travel: free pizza for a year, worth over $400. We encourage you to patronize all these great Berkeley businesses and spend your money in the city to boost our local economy.

The student winner of the main raffle prize with all those gift certificates is Gloria Jimenez. Second student prize — that much-desired year of pizza — goes to Jonathan Tranzen. The faculty/staff winner of the main prize is Yeun Ho, and pizza winner is Susana Wong. We’ll be emailing winners later today in case they don’t see the results here. Congratulations to all the winners!
