This 3-bedroom home on The Spiral is on at $469,000

While the median price in Berkeley right now for a house is $576,000, there is still a lots of choice to be had among homes that come in at under half a million dollars. (Many of them are in the flats which gives them the added advantage of being out of fire zones and a little further away than some from those pesky earthquake fault lines.)

At 311 The Spiral is a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom one-story house built in 1955 described as a “cosmetic fixer”. Interpreted, that means it probably needs a new kitchen and a new bathroom, and there may be some repair costs on top of that. It is located right next to Tilden Park has views of the canyon, and has an asking price of $469,000.

On Ashby for $499,000

The 3-bedroom home at 1207 Bancroft Way is listed at $412,400. Built in 1919, it has an open floor plan, and a backyard with a large storage area.

Green condo on Fairview: $435,000

The 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo home at 1522 Fairview Street has lots of green credentials and has just had its price reduced to $435,000. There are bamboo floors, radiant floor heat, a tankless water heater, and a vegetable garden off of the deck.

Last but not least is the 2-bedroom, 1,524 sq ft home at 2152 Ashby Avenue above Shattuck. The house has hardwood floors, an eat-in kitchen and a Walk Score of 89, being close to both Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl. The home is listed at $499,000.
