Update, 11.02.11, 12:42 am: Power was restored in Berkeley at 12:22 am on Wednesday, according to PG&E spokesperson J.D. Guidi. The cause of the outage has not yet been determined, he said.

An estimated 2,080 people in south-east Berkeley and north Oakland are in the dark tonight as a result of a power outage, according to PG&E.
PG&E spokesperson J.D. Guidi said the outage occurred at 10:00 pm and that crews are currently investigating its cause. There is currently no estimated time for when power will be restored.
On Twitter, local residents have been reporting in on the streets that have been affected. At 10:38 pm, @scazzasofija wrote: “Power is still on in Lorin district/Southside. We’re usually the first to get blackouts.” “All of Channing Way in block east of Shattuck Ave is blacked out,” said @frankolken at about 10:50 pm.
There are currently strong gusty winds across the Bay Area. In Berkeley the wind speed at 11:32 pm was 21.4 mph with gusts of 39.4 mph. Fifteen minutes before that the wind gusts were as strong as 46.2 mph. According to California Beat, a Red flag fire warning in effect for East Bay hills until Wednesday.
