The news this week continued to be dominated by the fall-out from the actions taken by Berkeley Police Chief Michael Meehan in the wake of a north Berkeley community meeting held to discuss the murder of Park Hills resident Peter Cukor. We reported on:
- Outstanding questions on the matter, which saw Meehan send an officer to the home of a reporter in the early hours of March 9 asking for a story to be changed;
- The questions raised by the public before a closed council meeting;
- The spotlight the incident placed on Interim City Manager Christine Daniel;
- The outrage expressed by the police department and the decision by the city to order an investigation; and
- The impact on Sgt Mary Kusmiss, the officer sent to Oakland Tribune reporter Doug Oakley’s home.
In other news, we reported on the imminent closure of Berkeley’s largest medical marijuana dispensary. Berkeley Patients Group will likely move location rather than shutter.
And readers loved, just loved, our Monday story about an owl staking her territory on a Berkeley trail by, among other things, swooping down on dogs (prompted by the great photo sent in by Andy Fremder, above). KTVU loved it too and shot a segment there later that day.
