Happy 75th birthday Golden Gate Bridge, in all your international orange splendor.
Of course, your heart belongs to San Francisco, but some of the best views of your splendid span can be had from Berkeley. On the occasion of your anniversary, we publish photographs of yours truly by two of Berkeleyside’s favorite snappers.
And, should readers crave more, check out renowned photographer Richard Misrach’s book Golden Gate, a collection of photographs of the bridge and the bay shot over the course of three years from the same vantage point on the front porch of his Berkeley hills home.
A host of celebrations are planned on Sunday as part of the Golden Gate Bridge Festival celebration, including the Solar Beacon project, which will create two points of light on top of each tower. The artist Liliane Lijn has been working with John Vallerga and other astrophysicists and scientists from the Space Science Lab at UC Berkeley to create an art installation that uses a Heliostat to concentrate the sun’s rays on the towers.
