June 9
Armed Robbery, College Avenue and Channing Way #12-30503
On Saturday, June 9, 2012, at approximately 3:50 a.m., an armed robbery occurred at College and Channing. The 26 year old victim was walking northbound on College. At the intersection of College and Channing the victim was approached by a male suspect who pointed a knife at him and demanded his property. The suspect took several items from the victim and then punched the victim several times. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. BFD paramedics transported the victim to a local emergency room where he was treated. BPD searched the area but was unable to locate the suspects. The suspect is described as: a black male in his early 20s, with a dark complexion, short dreadlocks, medium build, wearing a red and white shirt with animal cartoons on it and dark blue jeans.June 10
Driving While Intoxicated BAC above .08 – 2500 Block of College Avenue – #2012-30967
On Sunday, June 10, 2012 at approximately 3:08 a.m., a BPD officer spotted a man who appeared to be tampering with a car that had fresh damage on it. When the officer spoke to the suspect, the officer learned that the suspect was the driver of the car who had just been involved in a traffic collision. The officer noted that the suspect showed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and detained him. The driver performed poorly on the field sobriety tests. The driver agreed to a PAS test (Preliminary Alcohol Screening) test which resulted in B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Content) of .139% and .136%. The BPD officer arrested the 21 year old Berkeley man for violations of 23152(a)(b)CVC and booked him into the BPD Jail.
Vandalism to Vehicle – 1700 Block of Derby Street – #2012-30748
On Sunday, June 10, 2012 at about 11:58 a.m. a Berkeley woman called BPD to report vandalism to her vehicle. She had parked her 2009 Toyota Camry in the 1700 block of derby Street the previous night at approximately 11:00 p.m. When she went to get into the car just before she called BPD, she discovered that all her car’s tires had been punctured and were flat.
Drunk in Public & Probation Violation Arrest – Telegraph Avenue & Dwight Way – #2012-30820
On Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 6:47 p.m., a BPD Patrol officer saw a male that he knew had a stay away order from Telegraph Avenue and Dwight Way. The BPD officer and his trainee officer detained the suspect. When the officers detained the suspect, they immediately noted that the suspect showed signs of intoxication. The suspect had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and body, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was very belligerent. BPD officers arrested and booked the 43 year old Berkeley man for violations of 647(f)PC – Drunk in Public, 166(a)(4)PC – Violation of a Court Order and 1203.2PC – Probation Violation.

Vandalism to Business – 1300 block of Eighth Street – #2012-30944
On Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11:19 a.m., an employee of a business in the 1300 block of Eighth Street called BPD to report vandalism. The BPD officer learned that an unknown suspect or suspects had scratched/etched the windows on the south and west side of the building. The suspect(s) scratched “NBD” at least seven times, “ACNE” two times, “BITCH”, “SHUG” and “I LIKE” as well as other non-legible writing into the glass. The employee also showed the officer the mail slot as it appeared that a suspect or suspects had urinated into the building using it as an entry point. The total damage is estimated at $1500.
Fraudulent Use of Credit Card – 2300 Block of Channing Way – #2012-30986
On Monday, June 11, 2012 at 2:01 p.m., a woman called BPD to report fraudulent charges on one of her credit cards. She told the BPD officer that her wallet has been stolen or had gone missing on June 6, 2012. When she began the process of cancelling all her accounts, she discovered that an unknown suspect or suspects had charged $200 on one of her credit cards and $1000 on her debit/credit card. The BPD officer documented the crimes.

Robbery of Pedestrian Via Gun – 900 Block of Hearst Avenue – #2012-31253
On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at approximately 10:45 p.m., an Oakland woman was the victim of a robbery. She told BPD officers that she was walking west on Hearst Avenue approaching 7th Street. She said she saw two male suspects approaching her from front. The suspects blocked her path and suspect #1 pointed a gun at her while suspect #2 demanded money and pulled her purse from her. Suspect #2 grabbed her iPhone and wallet . The suspects then fled eastbound on foot. The victim described the suspects as Suspect #1 – “A black male adult, 30 years old, 6’00”, 170 lbs. wearing a black hoodie & black jeans. Suspect #2 – “A black male adult, 30 years old, 5’10”, 170 lbs. Wearing a black hoodie & light colored pants.
Residential Burglary – 2400 Block of Russell Street – #2012-31254
On Tuesday, June 12, 2012, a Berkeley couple called BPD to report a burglary. The BPD officer who responded learned that an unknown suspect pried the lock off a detached garage and stole two expensive bicycles. The crime happened between June 11 at approximately 10:30 p.m. and June 12 at 10:00 a.m. A suspect also made it into the basement of the home and made off with digital camera equipment. The total loss is estimated at $10,000.
Possession For Sale of Narcotics & Probation Violation Arrest – Herzog & 65th Streets- #2012-31207
On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 5:49 p.m., Drug Task Force (DTF) officers detained a male cyclist just over the Berkeley border into Oakland for riding on the sidewalk. The DTF team detained him after a brief struggle with the young man. The officers did a records check which confirmed that the suspect is active to felony probation for robbery and had an outstanding no bail warrant. During a search incident to arrest and conditions of probation, one of the DTF officers found three (3) pieces of cocaine base, aka crack, packaged for sale, cash and a cell phone. DTF arrested the 20 year old Oakland man for violations of 11351 H&S, 1203.2 PC and the No Bail Warrant.
Residential Burglary via door smash – 1300 block of Acton Street #2102-31436
On Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 7:46 p.m., a Berkeley woman called BPD to report a burglary of her home. She told the responding BPD officer that she left her home at 6:00 a.m. and returned at about 7:00 p.m. to find that an unknown suspect smashed the front door glass. The suspect or suspects then prowled the front room, bathroom and kitchen areas and stole $5,000 worth of jewelry, a laptop and a flat screen TV.
Theft of an iPad – 2100 block of Oxford Street – #2012-31417
On Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at about 6:07 p.m., a Berkeley woman called BPD to report that her $700 Apple iPad was stolen. She was sitting at a café in the 2100 block of Oxford Street from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. She told the BPD officer that she had her backpack on the floor under the table. Her iPad was in the backpack. She left the café to go to class and discovered that her backpack zipper was open and the iPad was gone.
Stolen Auto – 1600 block of Prince Street – #2012-00031368
On Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., a Berkeley man called BPD to report that his car had been stolen. He told the officer that he parked his Honda Civic in the 1600 block of Prince Street. Overnight, an unknown suspect stole the car. The officer documented the crime and entered the car into the Stolen Vehicle System. (SVS)
Residential Burglary via Unlocked Door- 1300 block of Harmon Street – 2012-00031373
On Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at about 2:00 p.m., a Berkeley man called BPD to report a burglary. The homeowner told the investigating officer that he left his home at 12:45 p.m. and when he returned at 2:00 p.m., he found his house in total disarray. He had left a door unlocked and an unknown suspect or suspects entered the residence and stole two laptops. The man’s daughter who lives upstairs discovered that her unit had been burglarized with two laptops and camera gear stolen. A BPD CSI arrived and processed the scene for anything of evidentiary value.
Driving Under the Influence – Berkeley Way & Acton Street – #2012-31276
On Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 1:29 a.m. a BPD patrol officer saw a silver BMW swerving between traffic lanes and nearly collide with both a curb and parked car. The officer made a traffic enforcement stop at Berkeley Way and Acton Street. The officer noted objective symptoms of impairment displayed by the male driver including a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The driver failed to successfully complete the Field Sobriety Tests (FSTs) and had a BAC of .181 and .189. The officer arrested and booked the 45 year old Berkeley man for 23152(a)(b)CVC.
