This is a partial list of recent crimes in Berkeley based on information from the Berkeley Police Department and the UC Berkeley Police Department. The calls for service spreadsheet is available on Google Docs. (Please note that these are Calls For Police Services only and are subject to review and reclassification. These CFS numbers only reflect part one crimes reported to BPD.)

The numbers reflected in the report are only a snapshot of what occurs in the City of Berkeley. The numbers are considered for informational purposes only and should not be used for data analysis or comparison to other agencies. Cases may be reclassified after further review of the incident, by supervisors, investigating detectives or the District Attorney as appropriate.

August 26:

Reckless Driver, Sacramento Street/Allston Way
On Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 12:48 p.m., a citizen reported someone driving recklessly in the area of Sacramento Street and Allston Way.  The vehicle was reported going north on Sacramento Street and turned left onto University Avenue going west.  An area check for the vehicle was negative.

August 27:

Disturbance, Ohlone Park
On Monday, August 27, 2012, at 6:46 a.m., a citizen reported a male pacing and yelling inside of Ohlone Park.  It was reported the subject had been yelling for 45 minutes.  An officer was dispatched to check the location.  An officer contacted a subject who was yelling in the park.  The man was upset over some recent bad news.  The man calmed down and decided to leave the park.

August 28:

Residential Burglary, 2100 Block of Dwight Way
On Tuesday, August 28, 2012 between 10:40 a.m. and 11:50 a.m. a residential burglary occurred in the 2100 block of Dwight Way.  An unknown suspect entered a residential apartment, possibly through an unlocked window.  Once inside the suspect stole the victim’s laptop computer.

August 29:

Residential Burglary, 1600 block of Short Street
On Wednesday, August 29, 2012 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:55 p.m., a residential burglary occurred in the 1600 block of Short Street.  The unknown suspect entered the residence through an unlocked basement window.  The suspect stole several items from the residence including jewelry and a computer.

August 30:

Robbery, Milvia Street/Oregon Street
On Thursday, August 30, 2012 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a robbery occurred near the intersection of Milvia and Oregon Streets.  The male victim was riding a bicycle in the area.  The unknown suspect cut him off in a white, 90’s, van.  One suspect got out and pushed the victim to the ground.  The suspect then took the victim’s bicycle putting it into the van.  The suspect then fled the area in the van. The suspect’s are described as: Suspect 1 – “White male, 30s, 6’ tall, athletic build, brown hair, goatee wearing a white short sleeve T-shirt, unknown colored pants.” Suspect 2 – “White male, no further details.”

Armed robbery, People’s Park #12-04162
On Thursday, August 30th, at 8:30 p.m., an armed robbery occurred at People’s Park. Three adult male victims, not affiliated with UCB, went to People’s Park with the intent to buy drugs from a drug dealer. They approached the suspect and asked if he sold drugs. The suspect pulled out a handgun from his waist and demanded wallets from the victims. The victims handed over their wallets and then ran away. The victims were not injured during the encounter. Three hours later, the victims reported this crime to UCPD.  UCPD checked the area and was unable to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as: A Black male, approximately 36 years old, 6’ tall, approximately 180 pounds, and armed with a silver pistol.

Sexual Battery, Unit 1 – Putnam Hall # 12-04174
On Friday, August 30, 2012 at 11:55 p.m. two sexual batteries occurred in the Unit 1 Housing Complex at Putnam Hall. An intoxicated male resident assaulted a female victim in the lobby of Putnam Hall when he grabbed her inappropriately. The victim pushed the suspect away who then entered an elevator. A subsequent incident occurred on an upper floor when the same intoxicated male student pinned a second female victim against a wall while groping and kissing her against her will. Other residents on the floor pulled the suspect off the victim. The suspect left the scene. UCPD was notified and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of the sexual batteries. The victims were not physically injured during the encounters. The suspect is no longer a resident of Putnam Hall. The suspect is described as: a White male, 18 years of age, 6’0” in height, 160 lbs., clean shaven, with medium length brown hair and brown eyes.

August 31:

Auto Burglary, 2800 block of Parker Street
On August 31, 2012 between 12:30 a.m. and 9:50 a.m., an auto burglary occurred in the 2800 block of Park Street.  The female victim parked and locked her car at around 12:30 a.m.  When she returned to her vehicle she discovered her cell phone, wallet and GPS were missing.  The unknown suspect appeared to have entered the vehicle by prying one of the windows.

September 1:

Injury Collision, 1800 block of Euclid Avenue
On Saturday, September 1, 2012 at approximately 6:40 p.m., a report of an injury collision was received from the 1800 block of Euclid Avenue.  It was reported that the collision involved a vehicle and a bicyclist, with medical assistance requested.   One of the involved parties was transported to a local hospital for non life threatening injuries.  The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

September 2:

Armed Robbery, Channing Way and Ellsworth Street #12-48157
On Sunday, September 2, 2012 at approximately 9:00 p.m. an armed robbery occurred near the intersection of Ellsworth Street and Channing Way. The male and female victims, both UC students, were near Parking Structure C when they were approached by two unknown males. One of the males was armed with a gun. The victims were robbed of their backpacks and cell phones. The suspects were last seen fleeing on foot northbound on Ellsworth.  BPD and UCPD searched the area but were unable to find the suspects. The victims were not injured during the encounter.

The suspect is described as: Suspect 1 – Black male, early 20s, 5’10” tall, thin or average build,
goatee wearing a purple sweatshirt, dark pants and armed with a gun. Suspect 2 – Black male, 5’10”, average build wearing a black sweatshirt or fleece jacket and dark pants.

  • Obey all traffic signals and signs.
  • A helmet is recommended for riders of all age.
