It was two years ago today that Adolfo Ignacio Celedón Bravo, known to his friends as Fito, was gunned down while walking with his fiancée, Amber Nelson, near Ashby BART station, and the police are no further forward in finding his killer and solving the case.
This week, the Berkeley Police Department reiterated that it is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Celedón’s murder, and the Consulate General of Chile in San Francisco issued a statement in which it said the crime was “a high priority and a sensitive matter of concern to the Chilean Government.”
Celedón, a Chilean native who was murdered on his 35th birthday, moved to Berkeley to be with Nelson.
On the morning of Sept. 12, 2010, at approximately 3:41 a.m., the couple was walking home after attending a party. At the intersection of Adeline and Emerson streets, the couple was confronted by two male suspects who intended to rob them. During the robbery, Celedón was shot and his fiancée was punched in the face before the suspects fled in what was described as a “dark older model SUV.”
Nelson spent much of today at a commemorative garden she created near the spot where Celedón fell two years ago. On the first year anniversary of the murder, in 2011, his family joined her there and spoke to the media and community about the son and brother they had lost.
Berkeley Police detectives continue to investigate the murder and are asking for the community’s help. Even the smallest detail could be critical in solving the crime, they say.
