Emilie Raguso, Berkeley’s new senior reporter

Keen-eyed readers may have noticed a new byline on Berkeleyside this morning when they read our weekly Shop Talk. Emilie Raguso joined Berkeleyside yesterday as senior reporter.

Raguso ran Albany Patch from April 2010 until last week. Have a look at the 79 comments and counting on her farewell post there to get a sense of the impact she had on Berkeley’s small neighbor to the north.

Raguso has lived primarily in the East Bay since 2004. Her stories have been featured on the New York Times website, Salon and NPR, and in the East Bay Express. She was a crime reporter for The Modesto Bee after getting her master’s in journalism from UC Berkeley in 2006.

“We’ve spent the last two years wondering how we could bring Emilie to Berkeleyside,” said Lance Knobel, a co-founder of Berkeleyside, which marks its third birthday this month. “Fortunately, our growth meant we felt we could take the leap into hiring someone of her experience and quality. It will really expand our ability to cover Berkeley.”

Raguso will cover a wide gamut of stories for Berkeleyside. You can email her at emilie@berkeleyside.com.
