As part of our continuing coverage of the Berkeley 2012 elections, we kicked off the week by reporting that the city was on course for a quarter million election; we revealed that the existence of two campaign billboards for mayoral candidate Kriss Worthington came as something of a surprise to him; and we published an overview of the District 5 race. But it was an opinion piece by Elisa Della-Piana, arguing against sidewalk sitting ban Measure S, that drew the most comments — more than 200 so far.

Our always popular Shop Talk column, in which we round up local business news, had readers discussing the second reinvention of Fellini’s restaurant on University Avenue; a roving mountain lion had Berkeley Lab on alert; and the damage of a redwood tree at the construction site of the new west branch library had many dismayed.

This was also the week we welcomed Emilie Raguso to the Berkeleyside team as Senior Reporter. We are thrilled to have her on board, and her fan base came out in force to congratulate her on the move.

Don’t forget tomorrow sees Berkeley’s first Sunday Streets event on Shattuck Avenue between Haste and Rose, as well as the East Bay Mini Makers Faire which takes place at Park Day School on 42nd Street in Oakland.
