
This is a partial list of recent crimes in Berkeley based on reports to the Berkeley Police Department, unless otherwise noted. See past crime blotters here. (Note to readers: We’re trying out a new format, and will be experimenting in the coming weeks to provide more information about crime in Berkeley, so please provide feedback in the comments section if you notice anything new or have ideas for more coverage.)

The following items represent just a sampling of calls, and times appear to be approximate. From Jan. 5-11, there were nine burglary reports, 16 auto break-in or theft from a vehicle reports, and six stolen vehicle reports to the Berkeley Police Department, according to CrimeMapping.com. One robbery and eight assaults were reported. These numbers are subject to change. Click the previous links for the most current information.
Crime Briefs for the Week of Jan. 5
Jan. 5, Saturday
Police responded to a report of a home burglary in the 1800 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard at 11 a.m.
Berkeley police received three calls involving theft or burglary from vehicles, in the 2400 block of Warring Street at 1 a.m.; in the 100 block of Fairlawn Drive at 5 p.m.; and in the 1200 block of Monterey Avenue at 7 p.m. University of California police received a report of grand theft from the Lawrence Hall of Science parking lot at 1:36 p.m.
Two vehicles were reported stolen, in the 1600 block of Ninth Street at 8 p.m., and in the 1000 block of Keith Avenue at 9 p.m.

Jan. 6, Sunday
Police responded to three calls involving narcotics on Dwight Way, first at Dwight and Hillside Avenue at 2:29 a.m.; then at Dwight and Ninth Street at 12:45 p.m.; and last in the 2900 block of Dwight at 2:55 p.m.
There were three reports of burglary from vehicles: at noon from the 2300 block of Fourth Street; at 4:15 p.m. from the 2300 block of Channing Way; and at 11 p.m. from the 1900 block of Sixth Street.
Someone made a report about vandalism in the 1200 block of Hopkins Street at 7 p.m.
Jan. 7, Monday
There were four calls involving theft or burglary from a vehicle: in the 1400 block of Addison Street at 2:30 a.m.; in the 1300 block of Grizzly Peak Boulevard at 5 p.m.; in the 1800 block of Shattuck Avenue at 5:45 p.m.; and in the 600 block of Grizzly Peak at 8 p.m.
Police responded to a report of a commercial burglary at 5 a.m. in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Police responded to a report of an assault at University Avenue and California Street at 1:35 p.m.
UC police responded to a report of possession of marijuana for sale in People’s Park at 5:10 p.m.
An arson was reported in the 2300 block of Bancroft Way at 9:15 p.m.
Jan. 8, Tuesday
A residential burglary was reported at 2 p.m. in the 600 block of Santa Rosa Avenue.
UC police responded to a burglary report from Tolman Hall at 11:25 a.m.
One assault and two incidences of battery were reported: a misdemeanor battery at Haste Street and Telegraph Avenue at 4:11 p.m.; a felony assault in the 1600 block of Hearst Avenue at 4:35 p.m.; and felony battery in the 1700 block of Derby Street at 10 p.m. Berkeleyside has requested additional information.
Police responded to a DUI report in the 2700 block of College Avenue at 5:55 p.m.
There were four theft- or burglary-from-vehicle reports: in the 2500 block of San Pablo; at Dwight Way and Hillside Avenue; and two in the 1800 block of Scenic Avenue.
Police responded to two reports of vandalism on Ninth Street, one in the 2100 block at 10 p.m. and one in the 2400 block at 11:50 p.m.
Berkeley Lab released a warning and safety reminder about a guest researcher who had been robbed on Dec. 30 at 9:45 p.m. near Ohlone Park, just west of the University of California, Berkeley, campus. According to the notice, police arrested the assailants, and most of the stolen items were returned.
Jan. 9, Wednesday
Police responded to a misdemeanor assault report in the 1400 block of Grizzly Peak at 11 a.m.
Something valued at less than $950 was reported stolen from the 2300 block of Shattuck at 1:10 p.m.
A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1800 block of West Street at 10:30 p.m.

Jan. 10, Thursday
Police responded to a misdemeanor assault at Allston Way and Sacramento Street at 11:15 a.m.
A thief stole something from a vehicle at Virginia Street and Shattuck. It was reported at 5:30 p.m.
Police responded to a home burglary report in the 2100 block of California Street at 7:30 p.m.
Jan. 11, Friday
Police responded to four commercial burglary reports throughout the day: the 2000 block of Sixth Street at 1:22 a.m.; the 2100 block of Berkeley Way at 2:29 a.m.; and two in the 1300 block of Eighth Street from 3-3:30 a.m.
Police received a report of a gun at 2:47 a.m. at San Pablo and Cedar Street.
