This is a partial list of recent crimes in Berkeley based on reports to the Berkeley Police Department, unless otherwise noted. See past crime blotters here. (Note to readers: We always appreciate tips about breaking news or neighborhood safety issues, via email at tips@berkeleyside.com.)
The following items represent just a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate. From Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, there were 16 burglary reports, 25 auto break-in or theft from a vehicle reports, and four stolen vehicle reports to the Berkeley Police Department, according to CrimeMapping.com. Eleven robberies and 12 assaults, domestic violence incidents or batteries were reported. These numbers are subject to change. Click the previous links for the most current information.
Jan. 31, Thursday
A gun or weapon was reported at 12:01 a.m. in the 2100 block of Milvia Street.
Three robberies were reported: at 1:30 a.m. at Warring Street and Channing Way; at 11:55 a.m. at Parker Street and Benvenue Avenue; and at 3:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Russell Street.
Three auto burglaries were reported: in the 2800 block of California Street at 7 a.m.; in the 1100 block of University Avenue at 2:30 p.m.; and in the 1900 block of Berryman Street at 5:45 p.m.
Someone reported a felony sexual assault in the 2100 block of University Avenue at 8 a.m.
A home burglary was reported in the 1700 block of Stuart Street at 2:40 p.m.
Feb. 1, Friday
Six auto burglaries were reported: in the 1700 block of Grant Street at 5 a.m.; in the 1700 block of Oregon Street at 9:15 a.m.; at Vine and Grant streets at 4:30 p.m.; in the 100 block of Spinnaker Way at 5 p.m.; in the 400 block of Gilman Street at 7 p.m.; and in the 1900 block of Channing Way at 10 p.m.
There were two home burglaries reported, at 7:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of San Lorenzo Avenue, and at 9 a.m. in the 1100 block of Glen Avenue.
A robbery was reported in the 2000 block of San Pablo Avenue at 11:25 a.m.
A felony assault or battery was reported in the 2100 block of Haste Street at 4:35 p.m.
A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1500 block of Shattuck Avenue at 11:30 p.m.
Feb. 2, Saturday
A home burglary was reported in the 2700 block of Haste Street at 4 a.m.
An auto burglary was reported at 10 a.m. in the 1200 block of Addison Street.
Two commercial burglaries were reported, in the 1500 block of Shattuck at noon, and in the same location just before 7 p.m.
A misdemeanor sexual assault was reported in the 1800 block of West Street at noon.
Feb. 3, Sunday
Two felony thefts were reported, at 1:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of Milvia Street, and at 11:45 a.m. in the 2300 block of Shattuck.
A commercial burglary was reported in the 1400 block of Berkeley Way at 2:52 a.m.
Two auto burglaries were reported, at Fifth Street and University at 1 p.m., and in the 2500 block of Dana Street at 8 p.m.
A robbery was reported at Dwight Way and Regent Street at 8:30 p.m.
Feb. 4, Monday
Four auto burglaries were reported: at midnight in the 1900 block of Francisco Street; at 6 a.m. in the 1600 block of Milvia; at 12:15 p.m. in the 1900 block of 10th Street; and at 5:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Blake Street.
There were also four home burglaries reported, at 2:16 a.m. in the 1300 block of Grizzly Peak Boulevard; at 7:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of Russell Street; at 8:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Tyler Street; and at 9 a.m. in the 1500 block of La Vereda Road.
Three robberies were reported, at 2:28 a.m. at Shattuck and University; at 6:11 p.m. at Ellsworth and Blake streets; and at 6:21 p.m. at Channing Way and Dana Street.
The homicide of Zontee Jones took place in the 1000 block of Delaware Street at 11:05 a.m.
Two vehicles were reported stolen, from the 2800 block of Shasta Road at 7 p.m. and from the 1600 block of Prince Street at 8:30 p.m.
Feb. 5, Tuesday
A home burglary was reported just after midnight in the 1500 block of Oxford Street.
There were also four commercial burglaries reported, at 5:06 a.m. in the 2200 block of Shattuck, at noon in the 1100 block of Second Street, at 6 p.m. in the 2800 block of Telegraph Avenue, and at 10 p.m. in the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Six auto burglaries were reported, at 7 a.m. in the 3100 block of Adeline Street; at 10 a.m. at Fourth Street and Park Way; at 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of Fifth Street; at 6:35 p.m. in the 700 block of Hearst Avenue; at 8 p.m. in the 2300 block of Valley Street; and at 11 p.m. in the 2500 block of Hillegass Avenue.
A robbery took place in the 2300 block of Shattuck at 12:05 p.m.
A gun or weapon was reported at University and Eighth Street at 8:20 p.m.
Feb. 6, Wednesday
Two robberies were reported, at 2:25 p.m. at Shattuck Avenue and Center Street, and at 2:49 p.m. in the 2000 block of Durant Avenue. According to a statement released by the University of California Police Department, in the first case, three juveniles attacked a 27-year-old woman sitting on an AC Transit bus; one punched her in the face and another grabbed her cell phone from her hands. All three fled. Police could not locate the suspects, who were described as two black male juveniles — approximate ages of 12- to 16-years-old with dark complexions and short hair — and a black female, 14 to 17 years old. The Berkeley Fire Department treated the woman, who reported a complaint of pain to her face from the punch.
A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 1000 block of Channing Way at 3:20 p.m., and two auto burglaries also were reported, in the 800 block of Potter Street at 5:10 p.m. and at 7 p.m. in the 2300 block of Dwight Way.
A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Cragmont Avenue at 7 p.m.
