GORGEOUS AND GREEN Gorgeous and Green, which specializes in local flowers and local, sustainably made gifts, cards and jewelry, has moved from San Pablo Avenue to 2946 College Avenue in the Elmwood. Owner Pilar Zuniga says her vision “is to provide thoughtful gifts, floral designs and events that illustrate love, happiness and joy while allowing those feelings to permeate the environment and people they touch.”
STELLA NONNA Stella Nonna, which has focused on catering and company lunches since its founding in 1997, is opening a full-service restaurant at 1407 San Pablo Avenue, just south of Camelia. A Berkeleyside reader reports that the construction has “nice wood, brushed stainless, etc.” Chef/owners Tim Carlon and Sarah Nasgovitz plan a neighborhood restaurant “with unique regionally accented cuisine at high-value prices, encouraging repeat visits.”
ENSLER LIGHTING Ensler Lighting, locally owned and operated since 1971, has recently changed hands to another local, Ed Mahr. Mahr said he will maintain the Solano Avenue retailer’s strengths in lamp repairs and “the largest selection of lampshades in the Bay Area.” He also plans to build Ensler’s business in restoration of old light fittings, he said. Ensler is at 1793 Solano Avenue.
TEASE ME BOUTIQUE Tease Me Boutique has moved from its original University Avenue store (which Berkeleyside covered two years ago) to 3217 Adeline Street, just north of Harmon. Tease Me sells lingerie, adult sex toys and numerous lotions and potions for massage.
SUN LIGHT & POWER Sun Light & Power, the oldest solar company in California, was recently one of three companies awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award as a “Rockstar of the New Economy” by Fast Company. Berkeley-based Sun Light & Power was joined by household and personal care manufacturer Seventh Generation, and America’s oldest flour company, King Arthur Flour. Fast Company noted that Sun Light & Power, unlike many of its competitors, does not subcontract installation work: “the company hires full-time employees and provides a living wage, health benefits, a retirement plan, and paid time off. Additionally, more than 10% of its net profits are donated to local nonprofit organizations active in affordable housing, community development, and green building.”
