Berkeley Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Blake Street in downtown Berkeley on Tuesday evening for a report of a robbery that sent one woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said police are in the early stages of their investigation after being dispatched at about 5:08 p.m.

A woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, said Coats, adding via email that an officer “is with her checking on her welfare and attempting to ascertain further information regarding the incident.”

Officers were still at the scene as of about 6 p.m. “canvassing for evidence and witnesses to the incident,” said Coats. Berkeleyside will update this post as more information becomes available.
