This past weekend in Berkeley was action packed and the weather more than cooperated for the many al fresco activities. At the UC Berkeley Commencement on Saturday, held at the newly remodeled Memorial Stadium, Apple-co-founder Steve Wozniak gave a 15-minute talk in which he recalled his adventures as a Cal student and offered some formulas for happiness, one of them being: “Happiness equals S minus F (smiles minus frowns).”

On Sunday, hundreds of architecture fans toured a selection of historic homes above the Claremont Hotel on the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association’s 2013 Spring Tour. All the homes, built between 1909 and 1941, survived the 1991 Oakland hills firestorm.

Also on Sunday, a mellow crowd drifted down to west Berkeley for Jazz on Fourth Street, a benefit for the Berkeley High Jazz program. Great music, good food, and leisurely shopping proved to be a winning combination for many. Berkeleyside was a sponsor of the event and many of you stopped by our booth to chat and have a go on our popular spinning wheel.

Other weekend events include Berkeley’s 30th Himalayan Fair at Live Oak Park, and the Berkeley Comic Arts Festival, both of which were highlighted on Berkeleyside’s weekly “It List.” Be sure to check that out every week, as well as our Events Calendar which is always chock full of a variety of things to do in our city.
