
This is a partial list of recent crimes in Berkeley, compiled by Berkeleyside, and based on reports to the Berkeley Police Department unless otherwise noted. See past crime blotters here. The following items represent just a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate. From May 30 to June 5, there were 18 burglary reports, 32 auto break-in or theft from a vehicle reports, and 17 stolen vehicle reports to the Berkeley Police Department, according to CrimeMapping.com. Nine robberies and 15 assaults, domestic violence incidents or batteries were reported. These numbers are subject to change. Click the previous links for the most current information.

May 26, Sunday
A man in a dark sweatshirt and blue jeans robbed a woman walking at 2:15 p.m. near University and Chestnut avenues. The woman was walking when the man approached her and grabbed her jewelry, then ran off. He was described as black, 25-35 years old, and 5 feet 3 to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium to heavy build and shoulder-length dreadlocks.
May 27, Monday
A man who spotted two strangers on his neighbor’s porch in the 1600 block of Oregon Street reported them to police before they could burglarize the neighbor’s home. Just before 6 p.m., the caller told police that two men, described as black, were on his neighbor’s back porch. He had yelled out to them because he didn’t recognize them, and they ran off. Police said they fled through the back yard and jumped a fence. Police said the men had attempted to get inside the home “but were scared off” before they could do so. One man appeared to be in his early- to mid-20s, 5 feet 6 to 6 feet tall, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The other man was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
May 28, Tuesday
Someone stole a 1993 red two-door Honda Civic from Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Berryman Street.
May 29, Wednesday
Someone tried to get inside a business in the 80 block of Bolivar Drive at about 5:45 a.m. The back door was pried open, but police said the prowler never made it inside and nothing was taken.

May 30, Thursday
Four auto burglaries were reported: at 7:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of California Street; at 5:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Gilman Street; at 7:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Oregon Street; and at 10:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Seawall Drive.
A vehicle was reported stolen at 7:30 a.m. at Channing Way and Browning Street.
Three felony assaults or batteries were reported: at 3:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of McGee Avenue; at 7:02 p.m. in the 3200 block of King Street; and at 10:27 p.m. in the 1900 block of Oxford Street.
A home burglary was reported between 4 and 5:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of Grizzly Peak Boulevard. According to the Berkeley Police Department, a thief stole a computer and jewelry after possibly entering through an unlocked door.
May 31, Friday
Two robberies were reported, at 12:35 a.m. in the 2300 block of Dana Street, and at 12:45 a.m. in the 2200 block of Dwight Way. According to police, during the Dwight Way incident, a woman was walking when a man who had passed her turned back around and grabbed her from behind. A second man who was armed with a gun approached her. They stole her wallet and cell phone. Both men were described as black and 20-30 years old. One looked to be 185 pounds with short black hair; he was wearing a blue track jacket and jeans. The man with the gun appeared to be 160 pounds, with a black baseball cap, a black collared short-sleeve shirt and black pants.
Three vehicles were reported to have been stolen: at 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of Carrison Street; at 10:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Warring Street; and at 10:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Merced Street.
Four home burglaries were reported: at 9:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Regal Road; at 11:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of Eighth Street; at 5 p.m. in the 2200 block of Haste Street; and at 6 p.m. in the 1100 block of Hopkins Street.
Four burglaries or thefts from a vehicle were reported: at 10:13 a.m. in the 2900 block of Otis Street; at 11 a.m. in the 600 block of Bay Street; at noon in the 400 block of Cragmont Avenue; and at 4:10 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hearst Street.

June 1, Saturday
Two thefts or burglaries from vehicles were reported, at 12:01 a.m. in the 2800 block of Adeline Street, and at 2 p.m. in the 2700 block of College Avenue. According to police, a woman who had parked in an underground lot on College returned to her car to find one of her windows broken and her laptop had been stolen.
Three felony assaults or batteries were reported: at 12:38 a.m. in the 3300 block of King Street; at 9:58 a.m. at San Pablo Avenue and Blake Street; and at 5:06 p.m. at Berkeley Way and Shattuck Avenue.
A commercial burglary was reported at 4:35 a.m. in the 1900 block of Addison Street.
Two robberies were reported, at 3:40 p.m. at Francisco and Acton streets, and at 9 p.m. in the 2600 block of Warring Street.
Two vehicles were reported stolen, at 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Alvarado Road, and at 11:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Marin Avenue.
June 2, Sunday
Two robberies were reported, at 2:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of Haste Street, and at 8 p.m. in the 2100 block of San Pablo Avenue.
Three thefts or burglaries from vehicles were reported: at 4:16 a.m. in the 2000 block of Kittredge Street; at 8 a.m. in the 900 block of Parker Street; and at noon at Durant and Telegraph avenues.
Four vehicles were reported stolen: at 1 p.m. in the 2800 block of Derby Street; at 8:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Warring Street; at 9:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Spruce Street; and at 11:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Rose Street.
June 3, Monday
A commercial burglary was reported at midnight in the 2800 block of Telegraph.
Four home burglaries were reported: at 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of Haste Street; at 8 a.m. in the 2600 block of Regent Street; at 9:45 a.m. in the 2300 block of Russell Street; and at 6 p.m. in the 2400 block of Warring Street.

A vehicle was reported stolen at noon from the 2700 block of Parker Street.

June 4, Tuesday
Six burglaries from vehicles were reported: at 7:15 a.m. in the 2900 block of California Street; at 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of Portland Avenue; at 8 p.m. in the 2500 block of Sacramento Street; at 9 p.m. in the 2100 block of Addison Street; at 10:57 p.m. at Parker Street and College Avenue; and at 11 p.m. in the 900 block of Cragmont Avenue.
Two home burglaries were reported, at 10 a.m. in the 2100 block of Spaulding Avenue, and at 10:46 a.m. in the 2500 block of Shattuck Avenue.
Two robberies were reported, at 4:32 p.m. at Roosevelt Avenue and Dwight Way, and at 10:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Haskell Street.
Four vehicles were reported stolen: at 5:10 p.m. in the 2500 block of Le Conte Avenue; at 7:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Euclid Avenue; at 9:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Essex Street; and at 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Bonnie Lane.
In response to a reader tip, Berkeleyside requested information from the Berkeley Police about a call involving numerous police cars near the downtown Berkeley BART station. Officer Jennifer Coats said, via email that, around 6:20 p.m., police observed a possible drug transaction in the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue. Officers tried to detain two people involved in the transaction, and “one subject became physically resistant and ignored officers’ orders. Officers struggled with the subject and requested additional officers for assistance. Officers were able to overcome his resistance and take the subject into custody.” No injuries were reported. One person was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale and probation violation, and the other was arrested on suspicion of resisting a peace officer and probation violation. Coats did not respond to a request for the names, ages or cities of residence of the people who were arrested.
A felony assault or battery was reported at 8:24 p.m. in the 1100 block of Parker.
June 5, Wednesday
Four home burglaries were reported: at 1 a.m. in the 2700 block of Bancroft Way; at 8 a.m. in the 1500 block of McGee; at 10 a.m. in the 800 block of Grizzly Peak Boulevard; and at 5:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Buena Vista Way.
A commercial burglary was reported at 6:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Shattuck Avenue.
Two vehicles were reported stolen, at 10 a.m. at University Avenue and Bonar Street, and at 2 p.m. in the 1800 block of 62nd Street.
Two thefts or burglaries from vehicles were reported, at 10 a.m. in the 1600 block of Tacoma Avenue, and at 11:43 a.m. in the 1200 block of Addison Street.
A robbery was reported at noon in the 1800 block of University Avenue.
