PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER  The City of Berkeley is hosting Parks Make Life Better month, and this weekend a celebration at San Pablo Park will cap off the festivities. Volunteers will be able to plant trees across Berkeley from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., with transportation from San Pablo Park provided, followed by a community barbecue from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The barbecue will be followed by a carnival and landscaping and tree-climbing demonstrations until 3 p.m. The event will begin at 2800 Park St. on Saturday July 20. MUSIC AMONG THE ROSES  This Saturday, jazz saxophonist Steve Feierabend and friends will be playing at the Rose Garden behind 1952-1966 University Avenue. Attendees can snag some late lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants occupying the space, including Slow, then head out back to the garden to enjoy the roses and jazz. More information at the Rose Garden’s website. Saturday July 20, 3-6 p.m. at 1952 University Avenue. The entrance to the garden is through the gate between Saxology music store and Brasa restaurant.

FAMILY WORKSHOP: THINGAMAJIGS Thingamajigs Performance Group will be hosting a family workshop at the Berkeley Art Museum this Sunday July 21 at noon. The workshop will focus on making instruments out of objects in our everyday environment. The group will have their own found instruments on hand to demonstrate. 2626 Bancroft Way at noon on Sunday July 21.

WEST BERKELEY DESIGN LOOP  The home making and furnishing stores of West Berkeley are banding together to form the West Berkeley Design Loop. (Read all about it in our feature story.) This weekend the Get in the Loop! event takes place on Saturday July 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in locations across West Berkeley. There will be small classes led professional designers and builders teaching tips and tricks for how to fix up your home. TEA TASTING AT UC BOTANICAL GARDEN  Winnie Yu, the owner and founder of Teance on Fourth St., will be hosting a tea tasting event at the UC Botanical Garden this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The varieties will range from white to green, oolong to black, with some rare aged pu-erhs in the mix as well. The tea is sourced from some of the top tea producing nations, such as China, Taiwan, Japan, India and Sri Lanka. Register at the UC Botanical Garden website. Saturday July 20, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. $25 for general public, $20 for members.
