ART SHOW The Berkeley Art Center will hold its opening reception for its latest show, New Media Combinations. The show features a mix of traditional media and digital technologies that have been “merged to create new frameworks for contemporary artists interested in exploring a realm of infinite combinations.” Participating artists include Kim Anno, Rebeca Bolinger, Lia Cook, Don Farnsworth, Bella Feldman, Rupert Garcia, Talia Greene, Jeannie O’Connor and Elizabeth Sher. The free (donations accepted) event takes place Friday, Sept. 6, from 6-8 p.m. at 1275 Walnut St.
WINE TASTING Friday night, Wine Thieves, at 2926 Domingo Ave., is hosting a $5 two-hour wine and cheese sampling. This weekly event, from 5-7 p.m., offers a “unique line-up of great, affordable wines paired with a selection of delicious artisan cheeses.” Participants can expect to try five wines paired with three cheeses. FAMILY DANCE PARTY Get moving with your kids on Saturday at Luna Dance Institute’s fall open house, with free dance classes for all ages. At 9 a.m., the event kicks off with “dance story time” in the library, followed by a family dance class, refreshments, prop play, prizes and Modern Dance Improvisation class for older children. The studio is minutes from Berkeley’s Aquatic Park and the Fourth Street shopping area. FREE CAR RACING FOR KIDS Boss Robot Hobby invites kids to play with electric cars at Moe’s Books on Sunday, Sept. 8. The remote-control car event on Telegraph Avenue, sponsored by Boss Robot and Kids In Motion, will run from 1-4 p.m. in the “People Zone” in front of Moe’s Books, 2476 Telegraph Ave. Racers must be under 13 to participate. Johnny Williams, owner of Boss Robot, Berkeley’s only remote-control specialty shop, will be there to answer technical questions and make sure there are enough batteries for everyone. Kids in Motion’s Troy Thompson, an avid remote-control car enthusiast, will also be on hand with his cars to let “the kids jump, bash, and race them.”
CAL STREET PARTY The Cal Telegraph Street Party will hold its second event Sunday, Sept. 8, from noon to 5 p.m. with performances by student organizations, live hip-hop, electronic and rock music, dancing, spoken word, live artwork, promotions at local businesses, and a Cal Club Fair. Telegraph will be open for pedestrians from Durant Avenue to Haste Street on Telegraph Avenue. See the full line-up on Facebook.
