After many months of planning, it’s finally here: The inaugural Uncharted: Berkeley Festival of Ideas kicked off Friday morning and will continue in full force through Saturday night. The packed program of expert speakers, hands-on workshops and provocative thinkers includes discussions on robots, race, plutocracy and food justice — and that’s just a sampling. And there’s still time to register: Single-day and weekend passes are available in the lobby of the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, 2020 Addison St., throughout the event.
The opening session includes Vivek Wadhwa in conversation with Scott Rosenberg (“Everything you know about entrepreneurship is wrong”); Kalimah Priforce’s Mind Bomb: Could an app have saved Trayvon Martin?; Annalee Newitz in conversation with Lance Knobel (“Can humans survive mass extinction?”); and Ananya Roy in conversation with Felix Salmon (“Solving global poverty”).
We hope you’ll follow along with the conversation on the real-time Twitter feed, or on Twitter and Facebook, and Instagram. Use the hashtag #Uncharted13 to join in.
