Friday night, the Berkeley Police Department released the identity of a man found dead earlier this week at the Berkeley waterfront.

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the Berkeley Marina for a report of a body discovered in the water, said police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats via email.

Officers arrived on scene and found the remains of a man near the shoreline along West Frontage Road south of University Avenue.

Officers from the East Bay Regional Parks and Berkeley police departments have been conducting an investigation into the discovery of the man’s body, said Coats.

The victim has been identified as Jerald Jacob, 69 years old, of Berkeley.

Jacob was reported missing to the Berkeley Police Department on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Because of the connection to the missing persons case, Berkeley officers will handle the investigation.

The manner and cause of Jacob’s death are still under investigation, said Coats.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call the Homicide Detail at 510-981-5741, or the non-emergency police line at 510-981-5900. Callers who wish to remain anonymous, can dial the Bay Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
