Update, 5:40pm: Good news: Monte Winterhalter has been found. This just in from BPD: “BPD would like to announce that Mr. Winterhalter has been located safe in Oakland. We would like to thank the community for all their help in searching for Mr. Winterhalter. An alert community member recognized him from information sent out and immediately contacted the Berkeley Police Department. Officers responded to the area and located Mr. Winterhalter in the area of Broadway and Monroe in Oakland.”
Original story: The Berkeley Police Department is asking the community for help in searching for a missing man who is at risk because he has dementia.
Monte Winterhalter is white, 61 years old, and approximately 6’4″ tall. He weighs 185 lbs and has gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen at 8:00 a.m. today near Ashby Avenue and Domingo Avenue south of campus, wearing a black jacket, orange long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
The police say Winterhalter recently moved to Berkeley and is unfamiliar with the area.
BPD has had officers in the area this afternoon searching for Winterhalter.
