Police in Berkeley are looking for an assailant reported to have stabbed a 60-year-old man in the arm multiple times early Tuesday morning, authorities said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.

The assault took place Tuesday at 5:14 a.m. in front of Berkeley Clothing Company at 2530 Bancroft Way.

The victim walked into the UC Police Department lobby, at 1 Sproul Hall, to report the stabbing. UCPD is the agency that released Wednesday’s statement.

The victim sustained multiple non-life threatening wounds in his left arm during the assault. Police did not say whether he required further medical treatment or hospitalization.

Police said the victim is not affiliated with the university.

After the man reported the stabbing, Berkeley Police responded to take over the investigation, as it took place in their jurisdiction, according to UCPD.

UCPD officers helped canvas the area but did not locate the assailant, who was described as a white man, 20-30 years old, and 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. He had brown hair and wore layered clothing, “possibly a brown jacket and jeans,” police said.

Authorities ask anyone with information about the incident to call the Berkeley Police Department at 510-981-5900.
