High winds in Berkeley created hazardous situations into the night Tuesday, and are expected to intensify. Power lines in various locations were reported to be blowing around, with at least one down altogether. A wind advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect in Berkeley until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Via the Weather Service, east northeast winds will increase to 25-35 mph Tuesday evening with “occasional gusts” to 45 mph at elevations below 1,000 feet and up to 50 mph at elevations above 1,000 feet. These “moderate to occasionally strong gusty winds will be capable of bringing down trees and power lines and will make driving difficult for high profile vehicles.” See the advisory here.
