
This is a partial list of recent crime in Berkeley, compiled by Berkeleyside, and based on reports to the Berkeley Police Department unless otherwise noted. See recent Berkeley crime coverage here.
The following items represent just a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate. From May 1-7, there were 11 burglary reports, 28 auto break-in or theft from a vehicle reports, and 15 stolen vehicle reports to the Berkeley Police Department, according to CrimeMapping.com. Five robberies and 15 assaults, domestic violence incidents or batteries were reported. These numbers are subject to change. Click the previous links for the most current information.

Thursday, May 1
Seven thefts or burglaries from vehicles were reported: at midnight in the 1600 block of Le Roy Avenue; at 3:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Browning Street; at 12:22 p.m. in the 2300 block of Haste Street; at 1:30 p.m. at Woolsey and Adeline streets; at 3:15 p.m. in the 800 block of University Avenue; at 7:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of Milvia Street; and at 11:20 p.m. in the 1900 block of Oxford Street.
Three vehicles were reported stolen: at 12:30 a.m. at Virginia and Chestnut streets; at 9:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Le Conte Avenue; and at 6:50 p.m. in the 3100 block of College Avenue.
A felony assault or battery was reported at 7 a.m. in the 1300 block of Haskell Street. Police arrested 49-year-old Jahmood Deramus on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon — other than a firearm — causing great bodily injury. He no longer is in custody.
A commercial burglary was reported at 2 p.m. in the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue.
Three home burglaries were reported: at 2:24 p.m. in the 1300 block of Peralta Avenue; at 6 p.m. in the 2900 block of Derby Street; and at 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of Ninth Street.
Two robberies were reported, at 4 p.m. in the 1900 block of San Pablo Avenue, and at 4:17 p.m. at Durant Avenue and Fulton Street. According to a notice released by the University of California Police Department, in the second incident, a 21-year-old woman was walking when a male teenager stole a cellular phone from her back pocket. The victim chased him and police were able to apprehend him near Durant and Fulton. The woman’s property was recovered and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of robbery. Police identified the robber as a male juvenile from Oakland. No further information was released due to his status as a minor.
A felony sexual assault was reported at 8 p.m. at Adeline and Fairview streets.

Friday, May 2
Five auto burglaries were reported: at 12:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of San Pablo Avenue; at 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of Carleton Street; at 8 p.m. in the 2000 block of Berkeley Way; at 9 p.m. in the 2100 block of Ward Street; and at 10 p.m. in the 2500 block of Dana Street.
Berkeley Police responded at 3:49 p.m. to Shattuck Avenue and Allston Way “for hundreds of BHS students milling around and throwing water balloons at each other, vehicles and passers-by. Officers responded. One subject threw a water balloon at an officer, striking her. When she detained the individual, the crowd surrounded her, necessitating a call for immediate back-up. Additional officers responded and monitored the crowd until it dispersed. One person was arrested.” The person arrested was a juvenile male.
A home burglary was reported at 10 p.m. in the 2500 block of Dana.
Saturday, May 3
One auto burglary was reported, at 12:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Shattuck Avenue.
Five vehicles were reported stolen: at 11:50 a.m. in the 2300 block of Jefferson Avenue; at 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of Grizzly Peak Boulevard; at 5 p.m. at Durant Avenue and Ellsworth Street; at 8 p.m. in the 1400 block of Cornell Avenue; and at 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Domingo Avenue.

Sunday, May 4
A felony assault or battery was reported at 1 p.m. in the 2700 block of Bancroft Way.
The Berkeley Police Department asked for help from the community, to find a missing at-risk woman, via an alert sent out around 4:30 p.m. via the Nixle network. The woman was located by a good Samaritan who spotted her in a laundromat less than an hour after the notice went out.
A robbery was reported at 10:44 p.m. at Mabel and Dana streets.
An auto burglary was reported at 11:15 p.m. in the 2600 block of Ellsworth Street.
Monday, May 5
Three vehicles were reported stolen: at 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of Burnett Street; at noon in the 800 block of Addison Street; and at 5 p.m. at Stuart Street and Hillegass Avenue.
Officers arrested one man but are still seeking another after a police chase near Ashby Avenue in Berkeley early Monday morning. Officer Sean Wilkenfeld, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol’s Oakland division, said a CHP unit tried to stop a red Honda Civic without a license plate early Monday, but the driver fled the scene. Authorities tried to make the stop shortly before 2 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Ashby exit. Read more on Berkeleyside.
Eight auto burglaries were reported: at 11:20 a.m. in the 1800 block of University Avenue; at noon at Bancroft Way and Bowditch Street; at 5 p.m. in the 3000 block of Harper Street; at 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Seawall Drive; at 6:30 p.m. at Berkeley Way and Shattuck; at 9 p.m. in the 1900 block of University; at 9:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Durant Avenue; and at 9:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Durant.
Two commercial burglaries were reported, at 9 p.m. in the 2500 block of Hearst Avenue, and at 9:15 p.m. in the same block.

Tuesday, May 6
Four vehicles were reported stolen: at 12:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Walnut Street; at 5 p.m. in the 1800 block of Delaware Street; at 8 p.m. at Curtis and Virginia streets; and at 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Street.
A home burglary was reported at 12:53 a.m. in the 1200 block of Ashby Avenue.
Two robberies were reported at 1:10 a.m. at Regent and Parker streets, and at 8:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of Harmon Street.
A theft from a vehicle was reported at 1:49 a.m. in the 1700 block of University Avenue, and an auto burglary was reported at 9:15 p.m. in the 2300 block of Bancroft Way.
A felony assault or battery was reported at 11:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hearst Avenue.
Wednesday, May 7
Four auto burglaries were reported: at 1:20 a.m. in the 2000 block of Emerson Street; at 3 a.m. in the 2100 block of Rose Street; at 4 p.m. in the 1700 block of Spruce Street; and at 8:05 p.m. in the 2000 block of University Avenue.
Two commercial burglaries were reported, at 5:05 a.m. in the 2200 block of Shattuck Avenue, and at 10 p.m. in the 1600 block of Solano Avenue.
A home burglary was reported at noon in the 1700 block of Chestnut Street.
