An Oakland man is scheduled for a trial later this month after police say he exposed himself to a babysitter in Berkeley and tried to lure her into his car.

According to police, a 21-year-old woman was walking to a babysitting job May 6 in the area of Dwight Way and McGee Avenue when a car drove up to her at 11:09 a.m. The driver, who was alone in the car, tried to get her attention, according to court papers.

The woman attempted to ignore him, and kept walking. Police said she turned to look at him and got an unwelcome surprise. “Fearing for her safety, she looked back and saw, from her elevated position on the sidewalk, that the driver had his penis sticking out of his open pants fly and was masturbating, while smiling at her,” police wrote.

According to authorities, the driver then told her “aggressively” to get into his car, “frightening her so much that she froze.”

The man drove away, but the woman was able to write down most of his license plate number. Police used the license plate number to track the man down. The woman identified him as the driver from her encounter. Police identified the man as 20-year-old Miguel Anjel Altamirano.

The Alameda County district attorney’s office has charged him with misdemeanor indecent exposure. If convicted, he would be required to register as a sex offender.

Altamirano remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail with a bail of $10,000, and is scheduled to begin a jury trial May 30.
