An Oakland woman has been charged with four felonies after her arrest last week by Berkeley Police officers in connection with a loaded handgun and suspected cocaine and methamphetamine for sale that were found at her home.

Berkeley Police detectives served a probation search warrant at the home of Anita McBroom, a convicted felon, in West Oakland on May 14.

According to court papers, they recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, suspected crack cocaine and methamphetamine packaged for sale, other packaging materials, two digital scales and two cellphones.

Police said they found text messages on the phones that “indicate McBroom is selling drugs.”

According to court papers, McBroom admitted to selling methamphetamine and crack cocaine after she was Mirandized.

McBroom has been charged with four felonies related to the possession of the drugs and gun.

According to the Alameda County district attorney’s office, she has four prior convictions dating back to 1987, all of which relate to drugs or drug sales.

McBroom, whose occupation is listed as a caregiver, is being held with a bail of $200,000 at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

She is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing May 27, as well as a hearing to revoke her probation.

Though Berkeley Police have declined to comment on drug investigations in the past, a department spokeswoman has said “it is not uncommon for narcotics investigations to take us into other jurisdictions in the region, as drug dealing operations don’t necessarily follow jurisdictional lines.”
