Other recent incidents

On May 16, at approximately 6:25 p.m., authorities responded to the 1700 block of Berkeley Way for a reported fire coming from an apartment building. According to Berkeley Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats, a man started “aggressively yelling” at firefighters who were trying to determine the cause of the fire. They asked the man to leave, but he refused to comply, Coats said. A Berkeley Police officer then also asked the man to leave, but he “turned on the officer in an aggressive manner, appearing to want to fight.” The officer was able to direct the man to the sidewalk, and noted symptoms of some type of impairment. Officers tried to calm the man down, and called for back-up. When the officer tried to detain the man, he fled on foot. He was arrested, on suspicion of public intoxication and resisting arrest, after a short chase, said Coats. The man was identified as Nathan Duffy, 39, of Berkeley.
