
BERKELEY WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL The 11th annual Berkeley World Music Festival is this Sunday. The free festival will feature Bay Area world musicians outdoors and in various cafés from noon to 9 p.m., and a global crafts fair from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Telegraph Avenue. There is also a featured concert of Motown and Latin rock in People’s Park from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., sponsored by Amoeba Music. COWBOY JUNKIES Canadian folk rock group Cowboy Junkies will perform Saturday night at Freight & Salvage. The concert will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of their album The Trinity Session, which the Daily Mail called “their melancholy masterpiece.” Tickets are $42 advance and $46 at the door. EATS, BEATS & BREWS There are two Sundays left for you to enjoy Eats, Beats & Brews, when Center Street between Shattuck and Oxford is closed to traffic for a host of festivities and good noshing. Festivalgoers will enjoy live music, the many different restaurants of Center Street, an outdoor beer garden, street food vendors and food trucks. This Sunday, the music line-up will include Mojo Daises and MAD NOISE with DJ O Aces. The event, produced by the Downtown Berkeley Association, is part of Sunday Streets Berkeley.
LA PEÑA’s 39th ANNIVERSARY La Peña Cultural Center will celebrate its 39th anniversary Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration will feature fresh Mexican food by Los Cilantros and dancing to a variety of live music from diverse local musicians. SUMMER SOLSTICE Gather to watch the sun set on the longest day of the year at the Chavez Memorial Solar Calendar at Cesar Chavez park this Saturday. The sunset is at 8:30 p.m. and Tory Brady of the Exploratorium Teacher Institute will lead a free talk beginning at 7:45 p.m.
