After several high-profile raids around Berkeley and Oakland on Thursday morning, authorities have announced the arrest of a second man who had been wanted in connection with a double shooting in Berkeley earlier this month.

Police announced the arrest Thursday afternoon of 22-year-old Donzale Mejia of Oakland, but said they were still looking for Anthony Durant, 23 of Berkeley.

Durant was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Friday on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a person. Mejia was arrested in connection with the same violation.

Both men are scheduled for arraignment at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Department 112 in downtown Oakland.

They are being held with a $60,000 bail at Berkeley Jail until that time.

Police said both men were involved in a shooting June 11 in the 1600 block of Russell Street in South Berkeley. That incident sent two men, ages 18 and 21, to the hospital.

Berkeley Police Officer Jennifer Coats said Friday that Durant turned himself in to authorities after the department announced it was looking for him.

Berkeley Police Capt. Andrew Greenwood said the investigation is ongoing and police are not releasing any additional information at this time.

Both men injured in the Russell Street shooting are recovering from their injuries, he said.

In connection with that incident, police served search warrants Thursday in four locations: in Berkeley in the 1600 blocks of Julia, Russell and Blake streets, and in East Oakland in a home in the 4600 block of Tyrrell Street.

The Berkeley Police Department worked with the Alameda County sheriff’s department and Oakland police to serve the warrants and carry out those operations.

Police recovered multiple guns Thursday, but do not yet know whether they were used in the Russell Street shooting, Greenwood said.

Berkeley Police officers also responded to a shooting Thursday night in West Berkeley, which sent a 38-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition. No arrests have been announced in that case.

Thursday night’s incident was the latest of several shootings, or attempted shootings, in Berkeley since March. That month, two teenagers were shot on Harmon Street in South Berkeley days after a drive-by shooting on the same block that caused only property damage. That same month, police responded to a drive-by shooting, with no reported victims, in West Berkeley on Bonar Street.

On June 7, two teenagers were shot at a West Berkeley hotel party on University Avenue. Police have not made any arrests in that shooting, but the investigation is still active, Greenwood said Friday.
