Police have arrested a Berkeley man in connection with a shooting June 26 that sent one man to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.
The Berkeley Police Department arrested 50-year-old Arthur Palmer on July 14.
Palmer is being held without bail on suspicion of attempted homicide and is scheduled for arraignment Thursday at 2 p.m.
Police said Palmer is responsible for a shooting in the 3000 block of San Pablo Avenue that took place just before 10 p.m. Police were called to the scene for a 38-year-old man who was suffering from gunshot wounds.
The Berkeley Fire Department took the man to the hospital. No update about his condition has been available this week.
That incident was the latest of several shootings, or attempted shootings, in Berkeley since March. That month, two teenagers were shot on Harmon Street in South Berkeley days after a drive-by shooting on the same block that caused only property damage. Also in March, police responded to a drive-by shooting, with no reported victims, in West Berkeley on Bonar Street.
On June 7, two teenagers were shot at a West Berkeley hotel party on University Avenue. Police have reported no arrests in connection with that shooting, but the investigation is still active. On June 11, police responded to a double shooting in South Berkeley; two men were arrested in that case, but only one of them — Anthony Durant — has been charged.
In a prepared statement, Berkeley police said Wednesday that detectives have been gathering evidence and pursuing leads in connection with the West Berkeley case on San Pablo Avenue.
Police identified Palmer as a suspect and got a warrant for his arrest.
Monday at 5:15 p.m., Oakland Police officers found Palmer at 14th Street and Broadway and arrested him on the warrant. He was turned over to Berkeley police and booked into Berkeley Jail.
Palmer’s arraignment is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. on July 17 at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in downtown Oakland.
