This is a partial list of recent crime in Berkeley, compiled by Berkeleyside, and based on reports to the Berkeley Police Department unless otherwise noted.
The following items represent a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate. From July 24-30, there were reports to the Berkeley Police Department of 18 burglaries, 15 auto break-ins or thefts from vehicles and six stolen vehicles, according to CrimeMapping.com. Five robberies, 21 assaults, domestic violence incidents or batteries and two sexual assaults were reported. Significant incidents from the University of California Police Department included two burglaries. These numbers are subject to change. Click the previous links for the most current information.

Thursday, July 24
Three home burglaries were reported: at 4 a.m. in the 2600 block of Russell Street; at noon in the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way; and at 4 p.m. in the 2700 block of Haste Street.
Two robberies were reported, at 9:20 a.m. at Durant Avenue and Ellsworth Street, and at 8 p.m. in the 1600 block of Sacramento Street.
Three vehicles were reported stolen: at noon at Acton and Rose streets; at 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of 66th Street; and at 9:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Ninth Street.
Friday, July 25
The University of California Police Department received two burglary reports, at 10:25 a.m. at Cory Hall, and at 10:57 a.m. at Sutardja Dai Hall.
A vehicle was reported stolen at 4 p.m. at Kittredge Street and Shattuck Avenue.
A robbery was reported at 6:25 p.m. in the 2000 block of Center Street. According to Berkeley Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats, a male grabbed a woman’s cellphone from her hand, then punched her during a robbery in a restaurant. Coats said the robber fled west on foot. The restaurant manager tried to chase him, and the robber threatened the manager and another passer-by with a knife during the pursuit. Officers were able to stop the the robber at University Avenue and Grant Street. They arrested him on suspicion of robbery and brandishing. Coats did not provide the man’s name, age or city of residence.
A felony assault or battery was reported at 6:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of San Pablo Avenue.
Saturday, July 26
A robbery was reported at 12:15 a.m. at Fulton Street and Channing Way. According to a notice released by the University of California Police Department, a man in his 30s was walking when a man with a gun approached him. The robber took the victim’s backpack and fled south on Atherton Street from Channing. Officers searched the area but could not find the robber, who was described as a black man in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds with a thin build, wearing dark clothing and a black “beanie” cap.
A felony sexual assault was reported at 12:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Street.
Five home burglaries were reported: at 8 a.m. in the 1300 block of Tomlee Drive; at 10:50 a.m. in the 2400 block of Fulton Street; at 4:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Peralta Avenue; at 7:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Peralta; and at 9:44 p.m. in the 1800 block of Arch Street.
A commercial burglary was reported at 8:20 p.m. in the 2000 block of Shattuck.
Sunday, July 27
Two felony assaults or batteries were reported: at 2:15 a.m. in the 2500 block of Durant Avenue, and at 6:54 p.m. in the same block. Regarding the second incident: Shortly before 7 p.m., Berkeley police responded to a report of a battery in the 2500 block of Durant Avenue. The victims, both men, 25 and 41 years old, were walking into a restaurant when a male was walking out. That male punched the victims, one several times, said Berkeley Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats via email. One of the victims ran to a nearby restaurant, where the assailant followed him and continued to punch him. The assailant then punched another unknown victim, then fled the area. Both men were taken to a local hospital by the Berkeley Fire Department for treatment. The assailant was described as a white man, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a dirty white baseball hat and light or white cargo shorts. Two home burglaries were reported, at 4 a.m. in the 2200 block of Blake Street, and at 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Delaware Street. Police arrested 22-year-old Brandon Watts on July 28 shortly before 10 a.m. in connection with the Blake Street incident.
A commercial burglary was reported at 5:10 a.m. in the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Monday, July 28
A home burglary was reported at 10:15 a.m. in the 2000 block of Woolsey Street.
A robbery was reported at 7:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of Fairview Street.
Tuesday, July 29
Three home burglaries were reported: at 3 a.m. in the 2200 block of Derby Street; at 1 p.m. in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way; and at 4:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Oxford Street.
Wednesday, July 30
Two vehicles were reported stolen, at 6 p.m. in the 2200 block of Derby, and at 10 p.m. in the 2700 block of Claremont Boulevard.
Two home burglaries were reported, at 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of Peralta Avenue, and at 7:25 p.m. in the 2000 block of Hearst Avenue.
A misdemeanor sexual assault was reported at 6:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of Shattuck Avenue.
According to the BART Police, a victim reported a bike theft from the North Berkeley BART station between 1:30 p.m. on July 28 and 7:30 p.m. July 30. The bicycle, a black-and-red-colored Bra-Kardon 21-speed mountain bike, was secured with a Krypton cable-lock. The estimated value of the bike is $2,300.
