TEEN SHREK This weekend, TeenStage will be performing “Shrek The Musical” at the Julia Morgan Theatre, 2640 College Avenue. Based on the popular 2001 kids movie, the musical follows an ogre and talking donkey on their adventure to save a princess from a fiery dragon. TeenStage is Berkeley Playhouse’s educational program, which features kids aged 12-18. The play lasts two and a half hours and will be shown four times this weekend: 7 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for youth general admission and can be bought at the Berkeley Playhouse website.
CLIPS BEER & FILM TOUR The New Belgium Brewing Clips Beer & Film Tour is coming to Berkeley’s Civic Center Park, 2151 Martin Luther King Jr Way. This Saturday, attendees will be treated to beer and several films, including one from Redding resident Tyler Faires. There will also be food from Kenny’s Heart and Soul and No Worries Cuisine. The tour, which travels to cities across the country, helps raise money for local non-profits. All proceeds from Berkeley’s event will go to Bike East Bay. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m. and lasts until 10:30 p.m. and admission is free. Check out their website for the selection of beer and films.
ALOHA KAREOKE NIGHT Phil’s Sliders, located at 2024 Shattuck Avenue, is hosting a family-friendly karaoke night Friday. The event will feature host Angie McLane, described as “the executive joyologist,” and DJ Gabe. Drinks at happy hour prices will be available for the duration of the night, which will last from 8-11 p.m.
BAC PICNIC On Sunday, the Berkeley Art Center is having a summertime party “celebrating all things BAC.” They’re showing their juried exhibition, Soapbox, for the final time, hosting a free clay workshop for kids, and putting on a live musical performance. The picnic, with food and drinks from Andronico’s, Comal, Poulet and more, will be happening simultaneously. Festivities start at noon. The children’s workshop ends at 3 p.m., at which point WIGband will begin their set. The picnic lasts until 5 p.m.
ATOMIC LOVE STORY BOOK TALK Historian Patricia Klaus and writer Shirley Streshinsky, authors of An Atomic Love Story: The Extraordinary Women in Robert Oppenheimer’s Life, will be talking at the Berkeley History Center, 1931 Center Street. This Sunday from 2-4 p.m., the authors will talk about their research and the lives of three women Oppenheimer loved: Jean Tatlock, Kitty Oppenheimer and Ruth Sherman Tolman. Admission is free.
